Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary
Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary lies amidst the thick tropical evergreen and deciduous forests and grasslands. It is a residence to a microcosm of country's bird population with around 500 feathered species. The sanctuary can be regarded as an excellent hub of some rarely found birds. Situated on the shores of captivating Periyar River in the Koothamangalam Taluk of Ernakulam district, this sanctuary was set up in 1983 by the popular ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali. Spread over an area of 25.16 sq km, the sanctuary offers some fascinating views of Western Ghats. Bird watchers are bound to get stunned and captivated on encountering this amazing site.

Eravikulam Wildlife Sanctuary
Eravikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is an amazing destination, established for the preservation of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. The sanctuary bears a solemn elegance with tumbling grasslands and sholas. It is spread over 97 sq km of untarnished natural grandeur. The slopes of the residing hills are immensely dotted with numerous hardly-found flora and fauna. This sanctuary was declared a National Park in 1978. The park's beauty is heart-stirring, making it an ideal place for a marvelous Idukki excursion.

Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary
The beautiful Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary is present at a short distance of 15 km from Munnar and is the natural home of the fascinating Nilgiri Tahr. Interestingly, about half the world's population of this rare mountain goat resides here. Announced as a wildlife sanctuary in 1936, the sanctuary is encircled with lush green meadows and forests, situated along the misty ranges of the western coast. Primarily, it was established to preserve the endangered Nilgiri Tahr and today, it has turned into a home of a large number of species of flora and fauna.

Moolamatton
Located at a distance of 41 km from Idukki, Moolamatton is extremely popular and is deemed to be one of the must-see destinations around Idukki. The underground powerhouse of the Idukki Hydroelectric Project is situated at Moolamatton. A visit to Moolamatton can be extremely knowledgeable and interesting as you get to know about the working and functioning of a hydroelectric station. The place is surrounded by alluring scenic beauty which adds more amusement to the entire aura.
